POKOTABI / Norino
乃りの
Just steps from Kitami Station, izakaya Norino showcases the distinct culinary traditions of Niigata, serving sweet walnut-filled futomaki, jumbo deep-fried tofu, and sake-lees marinades alongside regional sake.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Steps from Kitami Station, Norino builds its menu around the regional seasonings and culinary heritage of Niigata. The standout centerpiece is kurumi futomaki, a thick sushi roll native to Niigata that tucks sweet-simmered walnuts alongside tamagoyaki omelet, cucumber, and kanpyo gourd ribbons. The candied walnuts lend an aromatic nuttiness, rich sweetness, and pleasant crunch that bring unexpected depth to the vinegared sushi rice.
The array of drinking snacks is just as rooted in regional culture. Diners can sample jumbo-sized Tochio deep-fried tofu, or kagura nanban miso, a seasoned fermented paste packing a piquant heat that naturally pairs with drinks. From redfish marinated in house-made sake-lees miso and grilled to a tender char, to slow-simmered pork offal stew and classic potato salad, the kitchen offers an enticing lineup of small dishes for casual grazing.
Fresh seafood rounds out the offerings through assorted sashimi and salt-grilled kinki rockfish, ideal for sipping alongside chilled regional sake. Featuring an intimate dining space with counter and table seating, capacity is limited, making advance reservations a sensible plan for evening dining.
